Ramesh Srinivasan • 172.4K Reputation points • Volunteer Moderator2025-11-01T14:19:27.5366667+00:00 Let's remove some 3rd party drivers. Please run the fixlist below.
- Download fixlist.txt
- Save Fixlist.txt to the same folder as FRST64.exe.
- Close all programs.
- Launch the Farbar Scanner tool and click "Fix".
- Restart Windows when prompted.
- Upload the output log file (FixLog.txt) to your OneDrive.
NOTE: The fixlist.txt script was written specifically for this user and for use on that particular machine. It is not recommended to run it on another machine, and don't run the same fixlist.txt more than once.
The fixlist removes some old drivers, runs a drivers assessment, and refreshes the compatibility assessment. Your browser's cache and cookies will also be cleared.
The following drivers will be removed.

- Download setuplogscollect.bat (GitHub) and save it to the desktop.
- Right-click on the downloaded file and click Properties. Click "Unblock" (if exists) and click OK.
- Extract the batch file to the desktop.
- Right-click on the file and choose "Run as administrator". It runs multiple commands to collect various logs. Let it complete. It outputs a
SetupLogs.zipfile on your desktop. - Share
SetupLogs.zipon OneDrive or GoFile.io and post the download link here.
(The batch file contains plain text code. You can read its contents using Notepad before running it. It collects the setup logs, msinfo32.exe log, drivers list, boot configuration info, and the compatibility appraiser results from your system.)

Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) download version 18.1.3.8
Retry the 22H2 repair installation.
If it still fails, we'll remove the four drivers I mentioned in my previous post.

2025-11-02T06:45:06.6133333+00:00 That specific error (0xC1900101 – 0x20017) almost always points to a driver or firmware issue that stops Windows from rebooting into the next setup stage. The black screen during the reboot is a big clue.
A few things you can try that usually fix this:
- Disconnect everything you can. Unplug USB drives, external HDDs, printers, adapters, etc. A bad USB/driver can stop the SAFE_OS boot.
- Update BIOS/UEFI. If your BIOS is outdated, Windows setup can fail at exactly this step. Check your motherboard/laptop manufacturer’s website for the latest version.
- Remove or disable third-party drivers. If you have things like old VPN drivers, antivirus, RGB software, or leftover GPU drivers, uninstall them. In BIOS, temporarily disable things like:
Fast Boot
Secure Boot (you can re-enable later)
CSM/Legacy Mode (set to UEFI only)
- Try installing with only one stick of RAM. It sounds odd, but faulty or mismatched RAM can trigger this error during the SAFE_OS phase.
- Recreate your installation media. Use the official Media Creation Tool to make a fresh USB. Corrupted install media can cause the exact black-screen behavior you described.
- If the PC blacks out even on Reset This PC. Boot into Advanced Startup → Command Prompt and try:
sfc /scannow DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealthThis sometimes fixes the boot files enough for the installer to continue.
If you can share your exact PC model and whether the black screen has a cursor or stays fully blank, it’ll be easier to pinpoint what’s blocking the install.

2025-11-02T15:15:48.71+00:00 Based on the FRST file, I have noticed that you have installed KMSpico. If it is still available, please uninstall it. If you installed third-party antivirus software, uninstall it too. Have you tried performing a clean install instead of upgrading it?
Note: Back up your important files if any.
