Please help me with my audio problem. This is what happened:

  1. Installed Realtek HD audio driver. Before this, the name of the driver on device manager was "Realtek(R) Audio". After I installed, it changed to "Realtek High Definition Audio"
  2. It actually sounds so much better now, really high definition
  3. When I checked the updates tab on G-Helper (armory crate alternative), the HD driver was outdated so I installed the latest driver from G-Helper
  4. The driver name is no longer "High Definition" so I reinstalled the previous HD driver to make it HD again.
  5. After reinstalling and restarting, there's no more sound coming out anymore. GG Sonar detects there should be sound coming out but there's nothing. The audio level doesn't even move. (I've uninstalled Sonar, no more 3rd party audio app, only Realtek, AMD and NVIDIA)
  6. Plus, now my laptop only detects my speaker and not my headset (Arctis Nova 1). Also, only Microphone and no Array Microphone.
  7. I tried uninstalling drivers using DDU and reinstalling after. I can listen through my headphones now but now my headset microphone is not detected.
  8. When I successfully get my headset mic back, the old issue arise which is I can't hear anything through my headset. It's either not detected at all or detected, but no sound coming out (audio level is not moving when playing sound/videos). Also, my laptop mic is now detected as just "Microphone" instead of "Array Microphone".
  9. I'm currently at the stage where I can hear sound through my headset but my mic is not detected.
  10. It's as if I can only use my headset as either output or input.

Can anyone please help me? I've tried various guides and help on the internet, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers multiple times but the issues persists.

I got the sound working again once, but then it doesn't detect my microphone. A YouTube video told me to roll back the driver from Device Manager, so I did. The microphone is back but now there's no headphones. So I restarted my laptop to try get both microphone and headphones back, but then there's only speakers.

I also forgot to make a regedit before doing all this so I couldn't recover but I did got to recover from System Restore but it still didn't fix anything.

    Hi!

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

ASUS laptops like your TUF A15 (FA506NF) use UAD drivers with Realtek Audio Console, and installing the legacy “Realtek HD Audio Manager” version breaks headset detection (especially combo jack mic).

You need a fresh install of drivers. (follow these steps in order)

Step 1: Cleanly remove all Realtek and audio remnants

    • Disconnect from the Internet (to prevent Windows from auto-installing drivers).
    • Open Device Manager → Sound, video and game controllers.
    • Right-click every audio entry (Realtek, AMD Audio, NVIDIA Audio) → Uninstall device → tick “Delete the driver software for this device” → Ok
    • Do the same for Audio inputs and outputs.
    • Run DDU again, this time choosing Audio → Realtek, NVIDIA, AMD.
    • Reboot.

Step 2: Reinstall the correct ASUS-approved Realtek UAD driver

Important: Do not install “Realtek HD Audio” (HDA).

Instead, download from ASUS Support (specific for FA506NF only)https://www.asus.com/supportonly/fa506nf/helpdesk_download/

    Under Audio, download:

Realtek Audio Driver (UAD) (e.g. version 6.0.9609.1 or newer)

If available, also install Realtek Audio Console from Microsoft Store after driver install.

    Then:

    • Reboot after installation.
    • Reconnect Internet.
    • Launch Realtek Audio Console → ensure “Device advanced settings” shows both Headphone and Headset Mic.

    Step 3: Check combo-jack mode

    • Plug in your Arctis Nova 1 (3.5 mm combo).
    • You should get a popup asking “What device did you plug in?” → choose Headset (Headphone + Mic).
      • If popup doesn’t appear → open Realtek Audio Console → Device Advanced Settings → Enable jack detection when device is plugged in.
    • If your mic still isn’t detected → run:
      • Control Panel → Sound → Recording tab → Show Disabled Devices, right-click → enable Headset Mic if present.

Step 4: Re-enable correct recording input

    • Go to Settings → System → Sound → Input → Choose a device for speaking or recording → set to Headset Mic (Realtek Audio).
    • If only “Microphone” appears (and not “Array”):
      • That’s okay — “Array Microphone” was the label for the laptop’s built-in mic under older drivers; “Microphone” is now the unified name under UAD.

Once done with everything test again.

This is a quick test to do, not the conventional driver troubleshooting. You need to create a new local user account. (not linked to your Microsoft account).

    • Press Win + I to open Settings.
    • Go to Accounts → Other users.
    • Click Add account.
    • When the Microsoft sign-in window appears, click “I don’t have this person’s sign-in information.”
    • On the next screen, choose “Add a user without a Microsoft account.”
    • Enter a username (TestUser), set a password, and click Next.

Sign out to your current one and login to the new user. You can now test your sound there. This test will isolate if this is a corruption on the profile.

Let me know if it works so I can assist you further.
