    Hi everyone,

Especially for @Floppa G and others experiencing this, I've been investigating this issue deeply. The problem seems to be caused by a hidden update (KB5067039) that is applied alongside the main cumulative update (like KB5066835). This update seems to affect the USB drivers in the WinRE image.

While we wait for an official fix from Microsoft, I have created an automated batch file that safely extracts a clean winre.wim from a Windows 11 ISO and applies it to the system. This has solved the problem for me and others.

Please use it at your own risk. The full guide and the script are on my blog (the article is in Japanese, but please use your browser's translation feature):

Hope this helps those who can't wait for the official patch.

I just got my keyboard to work by booting into a windows 11 install media USB (which is the Windows RE..) and selecting uninstall latest quality update from the troubleshooting menu, then rebooting. My mouse also didn’t work previously, but for some reason did doing the recovery this way, otherwise I couldn’t have selected anything at all.

Thanks for posting in the community. If you're unable to use your keyboard or mouse in Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) on Windows 11, try the following troubleshooting steps:

    1. Check USB Ports: Switch to different USB ports, preferably USB 2.0, as USB 3.0 may not work in WinRE.
    2. Use Wired Devices: Ensure you are using wired keyboards and mice, as wireless devices may not function correctly.
    3. Disable Fast Startup: If possible, disable fast startup in Windows through Control Panel to prevent potential issues with peripherals in recovery mode.
    4. Check for Faulty Hardware: Test your devices on another PC; if they don't work, consider replacing them.
    5. Boot into Safe Mode: If you can access Windows, try Safe Mode to diagnose possible driver issues.
    6. System Restore: Use System Restore in Recovery Environment to revert to a previous working state.
    7. Repair Installation: If needed, perform a repair installation of Windows 11 to fix issues while keeping personal files.
    8. Clean install: As a last resort, consider a full system reinstall after backing up your data, as it will erase everything on the system drive.
