How can I log into my Outlook.com account with Mobile Wifi? I don't have Home Broadband internet or another device to log into the account.

Hi

I exchanged several messages in late June 2025 about logging into Outlook.com using Mobile WiFi. I cannot reply to the latest message.

I tried adding an Alias. I followed the instructions. When I did this, it was described as a second username not an alias. This does not work.

Shortly I will be unable to access my work email used for security, from home. I need to be sent a text messge to my mobile phone (phone number is saved on my account) or just to be able to use a password when logging into my Outlook.com email account.

I have tried deleting Internet History and using a VPN. Sometimes this works but not often enough. I do not have another dervice I can use and I do not have Home Broadband.

This issue has been causing me a lot of frustration and time. For many years a username and password has been enough to log in.

Thanks for your help.

Regards

You can find how here, it is in fact a second email address but under the same acccount and you won’t need to use it at all unless you want to [https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/add-...](https://emea01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsupport.microsoft.com%2Fen-us%2Foffice%2Fadd-or-remove-an-email-alias-in-outlook-com-459b1989-356d-40fa-a689-8f285b13f1f2&data=05%7C02%7C%7C7e15c676bcec4ea865a608ddb59bf75d%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C638866403666565017%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=1pYkx6eGrVm7pLWwftigoY%2F6%2FzxOo%2BNsOrpo%2BDucf2E%3D&reserved=0"Protected by Outlook: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/add-or-remove-an-email-alias-in-outlook-com-459b1989-356d-40fa-a689-8f285b13f1f2. Dear William Wintle

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum.

I am totally understanding your issue that you are having trouble logging into Outlook.com using Mobile Wi-Fi. You tried adding an alias, but it was treated as a second username and didn’t work.

Here are some tips to help you solve the issue:

    1. Use Microsoft Authenticator
      • Step 1: Download the app
      • Step 2: Open the app and tap "+" to add an account
      • Step 3: Choose "Work or school account" or "Personal account
      • Step 4: Following instruction to sign in or scan QR
      • Step 5: Use the app to get your 6-digit verification
    2. Use a direct 4G/5G mobile network instead of mobile Wi-Fi through a VPN

    Hi

    Thanks for your reply.

I looked into the Microsoft Authenticator app previously and could not download this. I use Windows 7. I know this is an old version of Windows but I can log into many other on-line accounts okay.

I cannot access my Outlook.com account on my mobile phone or download the Microsoft Authenticator app onto my mobile phone.

It is ridiculous that I cannot use Mobile WiFi to access my email account. I am sure many people use this. I have only had these issues since June this year. I have not changed what I am doing.

    • Is there a way to always be sent a code to my mobile phone as a security feature? This is never given as an option, even though the phone number is saved for my account.
    • If I deleted the other email address (my work email address) would I be sent a security code on my mobile phone?
    • As even though I followed previous instructions to Add An Alias, it seemed to regard it more as a Username, is there a way to add a clear Alias?

Even I were to buy a tablet or new PC, which I should not have to do, there would very likely still be the issue with the Mobile WiFi. I used an Ipad recently and still had the same issues.

As mentioned, soon I will not be able to access my work email address at home and so cannot use this as a security feature. The easiest option is to be sent a code to my mobile phone.

It would be very helpful to get this sorted out once and for all.

Please escalate this as a complaint, if that would achieve anything.

    Thank you for your time.

    Hi

    Thanks for the reply.

I followed the steps to Add an Alias. These seemed to be the same as the setps I had in a different reply in June. The heading was "Add a Username" as before, not "Add an Alias". As I had already added another email address previously I did not do this again. As mentioned before, logging in using the different email address made no difference.

The link to Reset account, only let me reset the password. I did this although I am not sure this is the issue.

I will have to wait to see if the issue persists. To clarify, I can with difficulty usually log into my Outlook.com account using Mobile Wifi; however often I get errors, for example asking me to use a different device, authentification method or VPN. I have tried using a VPN and deleting Internet history. These steps sometimes work. A different device (iPad) made no difference (as mentioned).

The following would resolve the situation, if they are possible options:

    • Be able to log in only ever using email address and password or
    • Be sent a security code by text message to my mobile phone for log-in

Thanks for your time. I will reply if I get any further issues.

    Kind regards

    William Wintle

    Hi

An update to my message yesterday. The issues still persist. I got the following error message:

Please retry with a different device or other authentication method to sign in. For more details, please see this link

I then turned on a VPN and got the error message "Too Many Requests". I refreshed the page several times and got the same error message until eventually I was able to log into my Outlook.com account after continuing to refresh / reload the page.

This has happened several times before.

    Kind regards

    Hi

    Thanks for your reply.

The Two-Step Verification is already turned off. So I don't know why I get error messages asking me to use a different verification method.

I had some difficulty receiving security codes to my mobile phone to log in again to access / change security options. I have searched Authenticator apps on Google and apparently there are options, such as Authenticator 7 for Windows 7. I don't think Microsoft's Authenticator app would work on this operating system. I could try downloading a different Authenticator app to my Windows pc. This will have to be another time.

If I use an Authenticator app on my Windows pc, can I still just log in using email adress and password on another device?

Also, is there a way to get a text message sent to my mobile phone so I can use a code to log in? My correct mobile phone number is on my account but I never get this option when logging in.

    Thanks for your continued help.

    Kind regards

    William
