Critical Bluetooth Connectivity Issues After Windows 11 24H2 Update – Detailed Report for Microsoft Development Team

Issue Summary:

Following the most recent Windows 11 24H2 update, my Bluetooth connectivity has been significantly disrupted, particularly affecting my Logitech MX Keys keyboard and MX Master mouse, along with other Bluetooth peripherals such as headsets and headphones. Prior to this update, all devices functioned seamlessly on my Asus VivoBook laptop, and they continue to work properly with other devices (mobile phones, tablets, etc.), strongly suggesting that the update introduced an issue with Bluetooth handling.

Detailed Description of the Issue:

  1. Logitech MX Keys & MX Master Mouse:
    • Initial Connection Works Fine: The devices pair and function correctly after initial setup.
    • Reconnection Fails: If either device is powered off and then turned back on, they fail to automatically reconnect, despite being previously paired.
    • Bluetooth Menu Behavior: Unlike other Bluetooth devices, these peripherals do not display the usual “Connect” or “Disconnect” buttons in the Bluetooth settings menu.
    • Workaround Required: To regain functionality, I must unpair and re-pair the devices manually each time, which is impractical.
  2. General Bluetooth Instability:
    • Audio Devices (Headsets & Headphones) Malfunction:
      • Sound becomes distorted, intermittent, and inconsistent.
      • The connection is unstable even when the device is in close proximity to the laptop.
    • Bluetooth Performance Issues Across Multiple Devices:
      • Other Bluetooth peripherals exhibit similar connectivity and stability problems.
      • These issues did not exist prior to the Windows 11 24H2 update.
      • All affected Bluetooth devices work perfectly on other systems running older Windows versions.

Troubleshooting Steps Already Taken:

To isolate the root cause and rule out external factors, I have systematically performed the following actions:

Checked and updated all drivers

  • Installed the latest Logitech Options+ software.
  • Reinstalled and updated the Bluetooth adapter driver (including Intel-supplied drivers and OEM drivers from Asus).

Disabled power-saving settings on the Bluetooth adapter

  • Ensured that Windows is not allowed to turn off the Bluetooth adapter to save power via Device Manager.

Checked Windows Update & Reinstalled Bluetooth Drivers

  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Bluetooth drivers multiple times.
  • Ensured that Windows Update is fully up-to-date.

Ruled out environmental interference

  • Verified that there are no obstructions or sources of interference (such as other wireless devices).

Confirmed the issue is Windows 11 24H2-specific

  • The same Bluetooth devices function flawlessly on other Windows 11 23H2 machines.
  • The issue only emerged after updating to Windows 11 24H2 on this specific laptop. Knowing that this is the only device I have running on this version/update of Windows 11. (mine is Windows 11 64bit Home Edition, which is the original one that came preinstalled with the laptop)

Observed Behavior:

  • Bluetooth peripherals work normally after a full system reboot or on/off, provided they were already connected before restarting or shutting down.
  • However, if a Bluetooth device is turned off and later turned back on or if the Bluetooth adapter is toggled off and on, automatic reconnection fails.
  • Manual unpairing and re-pairing is required to restore functionality, which is highly impractical.

Conclusion and Request for Investigation:

Based on extensive troubleshooting, the most logical root cause is a flaw in the Windows 11 24H2 update that impacts Bluetooth functionality. This issue significantly degrades the user experience, particularly for professionals who rely on Bluetooth peripherals for work. I urge the Microsoft Development Team to:

  • Investigate the impact of the Windows 11 24H2 update on Bluetooth stability.
  • Release a fix to restore seamless Bluetooth reconnection.
  • Ensure Logitech MX devices and other Bluetooth peripherals function properly without requiring manual re-pairing.

This is a pressing issue affecting productivity, and I would appreciate an expedited resolution. Please let me know if additional system logs or diagnostics would be helpful for further investigation. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Yahya Sami

Same issue, my BT speakers non function in 24h2, it can work perfect in 23h2, and I had tried any way to deal with it, I failed.

Now looks like my only way is go back to 23h2.

Last, I noticed that this problem was also reported in this post last year:Bluetooth not working properly on Windows 11 24H2 - Microsoft Community

Well, I hope they are REALLY trying to fix this.

digging into this, Windows 11 24H2 on my Asus laptop sets the Bluetooth User Support Service_xxxx to manual and uses “This Account” for Log On.

I am able to modify registry “Start” from 3 (manual) to 2 (auto), but attempts to modify the Log On to Local System via admin powershell: sc.exe config “BluetoothUserService_xxxxx” obj=“Localsystem” … fails with “The parameter is incorrect” error. (xxxx is the unique service value in your service).

This appears to be the root cause of my issue, it might be helpful for the folks at Microsoft if others reading this forum can confirm their 24H2 Bluetooth User Service is using incorrect Log On, and that Log On cannot be changed to Local System using admin powershell.

Microsoft - please acknowledge this issue even if you don’t yet have a fix. This bluetooth issue is incredibly frustrating.
