Hi there,
From what you've shared, it sounds like the issue may be related to permissions and account type. Since you're not using an administrator account, Windows might be blocking certain system-level changes that are required to complete the fingerprint setup. Even though you're signed in with a Microsoft account, some features like biometric setup still require admin rights, especially when installing or initializing drivers for the fingerprint sensor.
Here’s what you can try:
Use an Administrator Account
If possible, switch to or ask for access to an account with administrator privileges.
This is often necessary for setting up Windows Hello features like fingerprint recognition.
Remove and Re-add PIN and Fingerprint
Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
Remove your PIN and any existing fingerprint data.
Restart your device, then set up the PIN first, followed by the fingerprint.
Update Fingerprint Sensor Drivers
Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
Expand Biometric Devices, right-click your fingerprint sensor, and select Update driver.
If it’s missing, check your device manufacturer’s website for the latest version.
Install Windows Updates
Go to Settings > Windows Update and install any pending updates.
These often include fixes for Windows Hello and biometric compatibility.
Run the Troubleshooter
Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter if available.
Let me know how it goes, Happy to help!
