Hi, thank you for reaching out and sharing the screenshot. Let me clarify this for you.
When you use Insert > Object > Create from File > Display as icon, Excel is not inserting the picture itself, but rather embedding the file as an object. The yellow exclamation mark appears because Excel cannot generate a proper preview icon for that file type. This is expected behavior with certain images, such as PNG.
Here are your options to fix it:
- Insert the picture directly (recommended)
Go to Insert > Pictures > This Device.
Select your PNG file.
The picture will be displayed in the worksheet without any exclamation icon.
- Change the display icon
When you use Insert > Object, select your file, check Display as icon, then click Change Icon.
Choose a valid icon (for example, the default image viewer or another icon from the list).
This removes the yellow exclamation mark.
- Check file association in Windows
Right-click the PNG file on your desktop.
Select Open with > Choose another app, then choose Photos or another image viewer.
Tick Always use this app and retry inserting.
If your goal is to show the image inside Excel (such as a logo), you should use Insert > Pictures instead of Object. Insert Object is mainly intended for embedding other documents (like Word or PDF), and it usually only shows an icon.
