This article provides step-by-step guidance for Surface Hub v1 and 2S customers affected by the Windows 10 Team edition end of support. It explains available options based on your current configuration and highlights key dates, actions, and technical pathways to maintain a supported and functional device.
Important
Windows 10 Team edition, the operating system for Surface Hub v1 and 2S devices, will reach end of support on October 14, 2025. After this date, devices running Windows 10 Team edition will no longer receive security updates or support from Microsoft. We recommend you migrate to Windows 11 via the Migration Launcher app method before this date. Unlike standard Windows 10 editions, Windows 10 Team doesn't have an extended support option beyond this date.
End of support overview
On October 14, 2025, the following changes will take effect:
- Windows 10 Team edition reaches end of support.
- Surface Hub 2S devices must be on a Windows 11-based platform, such as Windows 11 or Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows, to continue receiving updates and support.
- Surface Hub v1 devices are no longer supported. We recommend upgrading to a newer Surface Hub device.
- Microsoft Teams Rooms and the Teams Rooms Pro Management Portal stop supporting Windows 10.
- The Microsoft Teams app (that preceded Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows) is deprecated and no longer accessible on Surface Hub v1 and Surface Hub 2S devices running Windows 10 Team edition after October 14, 2025. To learn more, see Microsoft Teams App End of Availability on Surface Hub v1 and 2S Running Windows 10 Team edition.
Check out the following video overview of the end of support migration options for Surface Hub v1 and 2S devices:
How end of support changes affects your organization
- Surface Hub devices still running Windows 10 Team edition aren't supported and don't receive security updates.
- Organizations using Teams on Surface Hub running an unsupported OS needs to transition to supported solutions.
Surface Hub v1 migration options
- Microsoft recommends planning for a hardware refresh such as upgrading to Surface Hub 3 to maintain a secure and supported Teams experience.
- The Surface Hub v1 can also be used as an external display for a connected PC or device, but it will not receive updates or support from Microsoft after October 14, 2025. For more information, see Connect and display with Surface Hub.
Surface Hub 2S migration options
Surface Hub 2S devices should transition to a supported Windows 11-based platform to continue using Teams and receive the latest updates. You have three options:
Upgrade hardware via Surface Hub 3 Compute Cartridge
The easiest path is to install the Surface Hub 3 Compute Cartridge, which comes preloaded with the Windows 11-based Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows platform.
This cartridge also provides the best experience of Teams Rooms on Surface Hub due to the enhanced performance capabilities of Surface Hub 3.
Software migration to Windows 11 image via USB
You can unlock a Hub 2S device by enabling OS Migration in UEFI, then installing the Windows 11 IoT Enterprise with the Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows experience recovery image from the Surface Recovery website (or another supported Windows 11 image) as described in Migrate Surface Hub 2S to Windows 11 via USB.
Software migration to Windows 11 via Migration Launcher (available only until December 14, 2025)
Surface Hub 2S devices can also be software-migrated to the Microsoft Teams Rooms platform using the process outlined in Migrate Surface Hub 2S to Windows 11 via Migration Launcher app.
