Release notes - SQL Server enabled by Azure Arc

Extension versions are cumulative. Higher extension versions include all of the updates from previous versions. A release might also include internal features.

Only Azure extension for SQL Server versions released within the last year are supported.

Preview

The following table lists the features of SQL Server enabled by Azure Arc that are currently in preview.

Note

Features currently in preview are available under supplemental terms of use. Review the legal terms that apply to features that are in beta, preview, or otherwise not yet released into general availability (GA). SQL Server enabled by Azure Arc provides previews to give you a chance to evaluate and share feedback with the product group on features before they become generally available.

Feature Details
Automated backups Automatically perform backups to local storage or network shares.
Azure Extension for SQL Server on Linux Connect SQL Server on Linux to Azure Arc.
Backup to URL with a managed identity Use a managed identity to authenticate to Azure Blob Storage for backups to URL.
Database migration Migrate your SQL Server databases to Azure SQL Managed Instance directly from the Azure portal.
Managed identity Use a managed identity to authenticate to your SQL Server instance starting with SQL Server 2025 (17.x) Preview.
Microsoft Purview: data owner policies Manage access to user data in sources that have been registered for Data Policy Enforcement in Microsoft Purview for your SQL Server instances and databases.
Monitoring Monitor SQL Server performance and activity with built-in dashboards in the Azure portal.
Restore to a point in time Restore a database to a specific point in time.
