Goo

Good Morning sirs and mams.

We are the Production DT Center at Samsung Heavy Industries, a company utilizing Microsoft SQL Server as our core database platform. We confirm that our production servers (Production Environment) are currently utilizing SQL Server Enterprise Edition licenses, which have been duly purchased for commercial use.

1. Background and Current Status

Our development teams and citizen developers are currently using SQL Server Developer Edition in the following context:

Installation Environment: Individual developer's local Windows client PCs (Non-Production Environment).

Purpose of Use:

Development of new features and unit testing.

  __Local development and testing prior to migration to Ops/Dev servers (including High Availability setup).__

     Pre-verification of functions by citizen developers in a pure development environment with no end-user access.
```__2. Key Inquiry__
We emphasize that the Developer Edition installed in these local environments is __NOT used for any commercial production purposes or end-user services.__ Its usage is strictly confined to __Non-Production Development and Testing.__
Microsoft's official documentation clearly states that the Developer Edition is a free edition "licensed for use as a development and test database in a non-production environment."
We believe that our current use of the Developer Edition on local Windows client PCs aligns precisely with this stated __'Non-Production Development and Testing Use'__ and therefore does not constitute a license violation.
__3. Request for Official Confirmation__
We kindly request __official, written confirmation (via email or support ticket response)__ regarding whether our practice of __'using SQL Server Developer Edition for non-production development/testing on local client machines within a company that holds a legitimate Enterprise Edition production license'__ complies with Microsoft's current licensing terms and conditions.
We appreciate your prompt and clear response.
    Your brief description suggests no license violation.
    However, if you need an official statement, this is not the place. I would recommend that you contact your local Microsoft subsidiary. I don't know, but Microsoft may even feel compelled to perform a license audit to give you an approved stamp.
