How do I get rid of the Window selection on the top

How do I get rid of this ANNOYING box on the top of my screen, anytime I drag anything in windows 11, which tries to make it split screen or to my second monitor.

If I want to move it to another monitor, I will drag it there, but it keeps taking things to the wrong screen or making multiple windows.

I do NOT want this on my windows screen, I keep accidently dragging things onto it and its wasting time correcting.

I want to clarify-- ALL SNAP features are OFF, all selections are unchecked, snap is off..

but it's still there.. it is NOT a snap feature, I do not have the snap bar up top.

I have a White Box that opens in the Top Middle of my screen which shows a split screen on one half and my second monitor on the other.

How do I disable this? For over a year now this has been causing my problems with no solution online other than turn SNAP off... Snap features are all off.

    Hi,

Thanks for the update, May I ask, Which GPU or graphics driver do you have-Intel, NVIDIA, or AMD-as integrated Intel graphics can sometimes cause this even on systems with another GPU? Do you have any monitor management software installed, like Dell Display Manager, HP Display Assistant, or LG OnScreen Control, that might add window overlays? And does the white box appear on all monitors or just your main one, and only when dragging windows or even at other times?

    Regards,

    Hi,

    You can try this:

To disable the Snap layouts menu from the top of the screen on Windows 11, use these steps:

    • Open Settings > System > Multitasking settings.
    • Expand the "Snap windows" setting.
    • Uncheck the "Show snap layouts when I drag a window to the top of my screen" option which disables the visibility of the Snap layout menu at the top of the screen.

Optional: Clear the "Show snap layouts when I hover over a window’s maximize button" option to disable Snap layouts completely.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Brian,

Sorry about that, I had the exact same issue on my system, and what ended up working for me was disabling the specific Snap Layouts option related to dragging windows to the top of the screen. After that, the white box stopped appearing completely.

You can also try this using Command Prompt to remove the white snap layout bar. Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run the following command:

    reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced" /v EnableSnapBar /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Then restart your computer or sign out and back in to apply the change. This might disable the white box that appears when you drag a window to the top of your screen.

    Kind regards,

    Randy, I found the solution.

It was your comment about monitor software that made me consider that no one else is experiencing this in windows, the way I was.

I used the picture (posted above), and cut out just the image of the white selection box and did an image search.

Surprisingly, that led me to what it was. Ironically, it WAS my monitor. When I purchased the Odyssey G8 years ago and plugged it into windows, along with the drivers, Samsung (the maker of this monitor) installs their app "Easy Setting Box". Whether it was an automatic thing, or I just installed the software that came with it, this was what was causing it.

It never occurred to me to take a picture and do an image search for this, always assuming it was a windows feature.

So while I may have found my own solution, it was your questions which led my thought down a different path.

So I just wanted to say- THANK YOU, for your time and effort. I've been dealing with this for years. lol

    Have a great weekend.

    Sincerely

    Brian
