Hi Mary Ann Francisco,
Good Day. I hope everything's well. Let's try to perform some steps to fix your mic's issue.
- Try to check your hardware (headset) first. If available, try to use a different mic (headset). Also, try to use your mic (the one with the problem) in another app, like voice recorder to test if your mic picks-up sound.
- Try to confirm if your mic is being detected. In your taskbar, right click the speaker icon (bottom-right)>Sound Settings > Scroll down to Input > check "Choose a device for speaking or recording". Check the following:
"Make sure it shows something like "Internal Microphone (Realtek Audio)"
"If it's not shown, your mic might be missing or disabled. (proceed to option-3). - In the same window, under "Input" > click "Device Properties" > Make sure the toggle for "DISABLE" is "OFF". Click Start test (if shown) or open Sound Control Panel: To do this press Win+R > type mmsys.cpl > Enter > Go to Recording Tab > try to speak and the bars should be moving. If still doesn't work, continue to step no. 4.
- Check if the microphone access is enabled. To do this press Win+I > Privacy & Security > Microphone. Check if the "Microphone access" and "Let apps access your microphone" are turned "ON". Make sure that your apps like Google Meet, Teams, Zoom etc. are allowed.
- Try to reinstall your audio drivers. Press Win+X > Device Manager > Expand "Audio inputs and outputs" > right-click your internal microphone > Choos Uninstall device. Restart your PC and Windows will reinstall it automatically. As an alternative, you can look for your laptop's model, specification and search in your manufacturer's site to look for the updated driver of your audio. Download it, and update the device using your manually downloaded driver.
- For the feedback problem, this usually occurs on laptops, since the mic and audio shares a single jack socket. Try to Unplug your headset > then re-plug it, a pop-up will appear and choose a correct device:
Headphones - Audio only
Headset - Audio and Microphone
Microphone - Microphone only
Open also your Sound Settings > under Input > Choose Internal Microphone, not Headset Microphone.
Open Control Panel > Sound > Recording Tab > double click the mic > Listen tab > Uncheck "Listen to this device". Under the Levels tab, ensure Microphone Boost isn't extremely high (+30dB can cause feedback).
I hope one of the steps above will solve your microphone issue.
Regards,
Jhun
