Title: Microsoft Family Safety – A clueless system causing drama and frustration

I’m a Microsoft user, and I’m absolutely furious with what’s supposed to be a “smart monitoring system” — Microsoft Family Safety.

Last week, the system reported to my parent that I spent 25 hours/week on Roblox. Sounds like I’m addicted, right? Wrong. I was AFK most of the time, just had the app open. Yet the system counts every second as active usage. Seriously — do you even know what “usage” means?

Thanks to this nonsense, I got blamed, misunderstood, and judged — all because of a monitoring system that’s clueless, useless, and scientifically absurd. If this is what a top tech company delivers, then I have only one word: trash.

I demand Microsoft fix this ridiculous tracking method. If you can’t tell the difference between idle and actual use, stop calling it “Family Safety.” Call it Family Drama — because that’s all it creates.

    Hi,

I completely understand how frustrating that must feel. Microsoft Family Safety counts app time based on whether the program is open and running, not whether you’re actively using it.

Just checking, did you completely close the app or the app just sits on the taskbar ? If yes, This means that if Roblox stays open, even when minimized or idle while you’re away from the keyboard, the system still tracks it as active time. It doesn’t currently detect when there’s no keyboard or mouse activity, or when the app is simply open in the background.

For more accurate results, it helps to close Roblox completely when you’re done playing instead of leaving it minimized. You can also share feedback directly through the Family Safety app, as Microsoft is working to improve how activity is measured and your input really helps. You can check this link on how to proceed with sharing feedback via Feedback hub: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/send-feedback-to-microsoft-with-the-feedback-hub-app-f59187f8-8739-22d6-ba93-f66612949332

Thank you for sharing your experience. Your feedback is important and helps make the system smarter and fairer for everyone.
