The HP all in one computer fooled me. Before, the hard disk was sectioned into C & D: and D: held the operating system. With this computer C: & D: are separate drives C: is SSD and D: is a hard disk. C: has the operating system. So, I moved a lot of files (pictures, etc.) to D: so, there is a lot of free drive in C: ...It didn't help. I removed the external backup drive ... it didn't help. Turned off VPN and connected Wi-Fi directly to our google fiber Wi-Fi ... It didn't help. Nothing so far has worked and I need help! (I was an electronic design engineer and am on about my sixth computer since Microsoft had early DOS. I've also written code for smaller processors.)

Hi! Update errors can occur for a variety of reasons. Maybe your Windows Update is having problems or is missing pending updates.

What error are you getting when trying to update?

    • Completely uninstall your VPN, antivirus, and banking software. They can cause problems even when disabled.

If the problem persists, try repairing Windows Update.

    1. Type "'Command Prompt'" in the Search Bar > Right-click on the app > Select '''Run as administrator''.
    2. Now let's type the following commands. ATTENTION: Type the entire command on the first line > Press ENTER > Wait for the command to complete > Run the next command on the list.
    net stop wuauserv

    net stop bits

    net stop cryptSvc

    net stop msiserver

    Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

    Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

    net start wuauserv

    net start cryptSvc

    net start bits

    net start msiserver

    1. This will force the system to download new files > When finished, restart your computer and see if the problem is resolved.
