Subscription Type Restrictions: Free Trial, Visual Studio benefits, Azure for Students, and credit-based offers often cannot purchase domains or have strict limitations.

Payment and Spending Limits: Make sure you have a valid payment method and Marketplace purchases are enabled. Disable the spending cap in your billing settings.

App Service Plan Tier: The app associated with the domain must be on a paid tier (Standard or higher). Free tiers do not support domain purchases.

Domain Registration Information: All ICANN-required contact information must be complete and valid during the purchase process.

If you are trying to upgrade to Pay-As-You-Go, please follow the steps in the official Microsoft documentation:

Sign in to Azure Portal.

Navigate to Subscriptions.

Choose the subscription you want to upgrade, such as Free Trial or Students Starter.

On the subscription overview page:

Select Upgrade subscription from the command bar, or

Click the upgrade banner at the top.

If prompted, add a valid payment method (credit or debit card).

Verify your identity, which may require your phone number.

Optionally, select a support plan.

Click Upgrade. Your subscription will then change to Pay-As-You-Go pricing.

Hi Ryan,

I do not recommend you purchase an App Service Domain due to many issues with it. Please purchase a domain directly from a domain registrar instead.

A domain purchased directly from a registrar works well with all of the Azure services that support custom domains. In my experience you can purchase a new domain from a registrar and start using it with Azure services immediately.
