Hi G Thomas,
The show Wi-Fi password has been built into Windows for a very long time. Creating a very secure password can help.
to disable the ability to view the Wi-Fi security key using either the registry or Intune, you can follow these steps:
Option 1: Disable via Registry
You can restrict users from viewing Wi-Fi passwords by disabling the netsh command via Group Policy or registry settings. Here’s how to do it through the registry:
- Open Registry Editor:
o Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
- Navigate to the Following Path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WcmSvc\GroupPolicy
o If the WcmSvc or GroupPolicy keys do not exist, you will need to create them.
- Create a New DWORD Value:
o Right-click on the GroupPolicy folder, select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it:
fShowNetworkConnectivityUI
- Set the Value:
o Double-click on the fShowNetworkConnectivityUI entry and set its value to 0.
- Restart the Computer:
o Restart your device to apply the changes.
Option 2: Disable via Intune
You can achieve a similar restriction using Intune by applying a custom configuration profile:
- Create a Configuration Profile:
o In the Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center, go to Devices > Configuration profiles > Create profile.
- Select Profile Type:
o Platform: Windows 10 and later
o Profile type: Custom
- Configure OMA-URI Settings:
o Name: Disable View Wi-Fi Key
o Description: Restrict users from viewing the Wi-Fi key
o OMA-URI:
./Device/Vendor/MSFT/Policy/Config/Connectivity/DoNotViewWiFiPassword
o Data type: Integer
o Value: 1
- Assign the Policy:
o Assign the profile to the desired user or device group.
- Sync the Devices:
o After applying the configuration, initiate a sync from the affected devices to ensure the policy is applied.
With these methods, users will no longer have the ability to view Wi-Fi security keys on their devices.
Regards,
