How to move my VM to a different location.

Thank you for reaching out. I understand you are facing allocation issues in the East US region and are considering moving your VM to a different region without affecting its configuration or data.

Azure provides a reliable way to move resources, including virtual machines (VMs), between regions using Azure Resource Mover. This service ensures that all dependencies (OS disk, NICs, public IPs, etc.) are moved safely while keeping your VM configuration intact.

1. Go to Azure portal >> Search Azure Resource Mover>>Select the Move resources to another region.
2. Select the destination location and click on next
3. After that select the resources and select on VM and dependencies.
4. Run Prepare: Azure creates a dependency map and prepares target resources.

Once preparation completes, review the validation report in the Resource Mover dashboard to ensure all dependencies are met.

Select Initiate move once validation succeeds and last commit move.

1. Azure will automatically:
   • Copy the VM configuration and data disks to the target region.
   • Preserve VM identifiers and settings where supported.
   • Clean up the source region if you choose to remove old resources.

This process allows you to move the VM seamlessly without altering its configuration or impacting its data.

You do need to move and set some of the dependencies first, such as Resource Group etc.

Log on to the Azure portal >> Select Recovery Services vaults. >>Select the vault that hosts your ASR data >> Select Site Recovery jobs.
