I had to reset my PC and when setting up Outlook again, I inadvertently set it up using Exchange instead of my dns server. I am now unable to change it or delete the account to start again. Any ideas please?

    Hi @Ed Higgins

Thank you so much for contacting Microsoft Q&A Forum.

As you mentioned, you've reset your PC and accidentally set up your account as an Exchange account.

The best and cleanest solution depends on which version of Outlook you are using.

    Solution 1: For Classic Outlook

The solution is to create a new, fresh Outlook Profile. This is done through the Windows Control Panel, not inside the Outlook app.

    • Completely close the Outlook application > Open the Control Panel on your PC (you can search for it in the Start menu) > Find and click on "Mail (Microsoft Outlook)" > In the window that pops up, click the "Show Profiles..." button > Click the "Add..." button to start creating a new profile.

Now, when you start Outlook, it will open with your correctly configured account. You can even go back to the "Show Profiles" window and safely delete the old profile.

Solution 2: For the New Outlook

    • Open the New Outlook app > Settings > Accounts > Email accounts > You should see the incorrect Exchange account listed. Click "Manage" next to it > You will see an option to "Remove" the account and click it > Once the account is gone, click the "+ Add account" button to start over > When re-adding the account, be careful to choose the correct account type (POP/IMAP) so you can enter your server settings manually.

I hope this helps you get back up and running!
