Hi tlrsr1,
Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum. I understand how frustrating it can be when an app interferes with your financial data. Below is a step-by-step guide to exclude the app and its related folders:
Step 1: Identify the App and Its Data Locations
To exclude the app properly, you need to know where its files are stored.
- Press Windows + R, type
appdata, and press Enter. - Check these folders for the app’s data:
-
C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local -
C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Roaming
-
- Also look in:
-
C:\Program FilesorC:\Program Files (x86)for the main app folder. - Some apps also store data in
C:\ProgramData.
-
Step 2: Open Windows Security Settings
This is where you can add exclusions so Windows Defender doesn’t scan or interfere with the app.
- Click Start, type Windows Security, and open it.
- Go to Virus & threat protection > Manage settings.
Step 3: Add Exclusions for the App and Its Folders
Adding exclusions prevents the app’s files from being scanned or blocked, reducing conflicts.
- Scroll down to Exclusions > Click Add or remove exclusions.
- Click Add an exclusion > Select Folder.
- Choose the app’s main folder and repeat for any related folders you found in Step 1.
Step 4: Confirm Changes
Ensures the exclusions are active and the app won’t be affected by security scans.
- Check that all folders appear in the Exclusions list.
- This ensures the app won’t be scanned or blocked.
