How to fix a reappearing frozen screen that mirrors my call window and wont go away

During my Microsoft Teams calls, mid-call I am randomly getting my main meeting window mirrored and duplicated as a new window that is completely frozen and has no ability to X out and close during or after the call.

The "mirrored" ghost window, will appear mid call, and never go away without force quit application.

I have tried to reinstall the app, I have tried to clear Teams cache, nothing seems to be working.

    Hi @Courtney Smack

Thank you for posting your question to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on your description, I understand that you are seeing a window that cannot be closed during or after the meeting. This window is intended to help you keep track of the meeting while multitasking. However, after the meeting ends, the window still persists until you force quit the application.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide the following information:

    Are you using a business email (e.g., @companyname.com) or a personal email (e.g., @hotmail.com, @gmail.com, @outlook.com)?

Are you running Microsoft Teams on a Windows or macOS device? This will help us provide solutions based on your operating system.

Does the issue appear when you use Teams online or switch to another browser or window? Additionally, are you using any external monitor?

Could you please share a screenshot of the window when it appears?

Once I have a clearer understanding of your current situation, I’ll be happy to assist you with greater accuracy. Please feel free to share any additional details you believe are relevant. Screenshots are especially helpful and much appreciated.  Thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this process. Should you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out at any time.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Hi @Courtney Smack

Thank you for the information. To resolve the issue, I would recommend trying the following methods below:

    1. Adjust macOS display settings
    • Open System Settings → Desktop & Dock.
    • Scroll down to Mission Control and turn off the option “Displays have separate Spaces.”

    User's image

    • Log out and back in for the change to take effect.
    1. Launch Teams in safe mode / disable third-party apps
    • Some apps that manage windows, record the screen, or use GPU resources can conflict with Teams.
    • Restart your Mac in Safe Mode (hold Shift during boot) and test a Teams call.
    • If the issue doesn’t appear in Safe Mode, identify any third-party apps that may be causing conflicts.
    1. Use Teams web app as a temporary workaround
    • If the issue persists, you can use Teams in a browser.
    • This avoids desktop app GPU rendering and windowing conflicts while troubleshooting the desktop version.

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

I'm looking forward to your reply.
