Hello,

I’d like to report an issue in Outlook 365: When opening tasks, the task titles (Subject) appear as gibberish, while the content inside the task displays correctly.

Actions already taken:

Checked encoding (UTF-8) – OK.

Reset View and display settings.

Ran Outlook in Safe Mode – issue persists.

Created a new Outlook profile – issue remains.

Performed Quick Repair on Office – no change.

It seems to be a display or rendering problem related to the Tasks view in the Outlook desktop app. Please investigate and advise on further steps.

Thank you,

REMOVE PII

    Dear Vitaly Kobrin
Welcome, and thank you for sharing your issue in the Q&A forum.
Based on the details you provided, it appears that the task body displays correctly, while the task subject (title) in the list view appears as gibberish. This suggests a character rendering issue related to language or fonts, even though UTF-8 encoding has already been verified. Since the problem persists in Safe Mode and with a new profile, it is likely not caused by standard Outlook configuration files.

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

-Check Outlook Web App (OWA): If tasks display correctly in OWA, the issue is specific to the Outlook desktop rendering engine.

    -Reset and Adjust View Settings:
    Switch to the Tasks view.
Go to View >> Reset View.
Then go to View Settings >> Other Settings... and change the row/column font to a standard font (e.g., Segoe UI or Arial) to force Outlook to use a different font.

    -Update Outlook and Windows:
In Outlook: File >> Office Account >> Update Options >> Update Now.
In Windows: Run Windows Update to ensure the system and font packages are fully updated.

-Verify and Configure System Language Settings:
Language & Region: Go to Settings >> Time & Language >> Language & Region and ensure the display language and region match your intended settings.
Non-Unicode Settings: Go to Control Panel >> Region >> Administrative tab > Change system locale.... Ensure it matches the language in use (e.g., Hebrew/Israel). Optionally, toggle Beta: Use Unicode (UTF-8) for worldwide language support, then restart the computer.

-Run an Online Repair for Office:
Go to Control Panel >> Programs >> Microsoft 365 >> Change >> Online Repair. This will reinstall Office components and replace any corrupted files.

We understand that these steps may not immediately resolve the issue, but with your cooperation and additional details, we are confident we can identify a suitable solution.

Please feel free to update us with the results or reach out if you need further assistance. We’re here to help.
