Hello everyone,

I need some help diagnosing a recurring crash that started this month. Whenever I launch Genshin Impact (and sometimes other games), the game crashes after a few minutes with the following error in Event Viewer:

Faulting application name: GenshinImpact.exe, version: 2017.4.30.0, timestamp: 0x68e788fe
Faulting module name: nvgpucomp64.dll, version: 32.0.15.8157, timestamp: 0x68e83d62
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Faulting offset: 0x0000000000fd127c
Faulting process ID: 0x3B3C
Faulting application start time: 0x1DC439CBC7884EE
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\HoYoPlay\games\Genshin Impact game\GenshinImpact.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nvami.inf_amd64_f6ed7dd5d89ca48a\nvgpucomp64.dll
Report ID: 09821660-304b-4af2-9c2d-9d00b914972f

System information:

  • Windows 11 Home, version 10.0.26100 (24H2)

ASUS ROG Strix G18 (G814JIR)

Intel Core i9-14900HX

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU

NVIDIA driver version: 32.0.15.8157 (Game Ready Driver 558.17)

BIOS version: 320 (10/24/2024)

What I’ve already tried:

Performed a clean installation of NVIDIA drivers using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller).

Cleared DirectX Shader Cache and NVIDIA Cache.

Ran sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.

Disabled antivirus and overlay software (Discord, GeForce Experience, etc.).

Tested with both VT-d enabled and disabled in BIOS.

Despite all that, the crash still occurs. Could this be related to the latest Windows 11 24H2 update or the recent NVIDIA driver branch (558.xx)? Any suggestions or official feedback would be appreciated.

Thank you!Hello everyone,

Hi, I'm Bernard, a fellow Windows user. I'm happy to help!

I understand the issue you have. There is nothing to worry about. I am here to assist, based on your inputs and the error nvgpucomp64.dll. This is your Nvidia graphics card driver. For us to fix the issue, kindly follow the steps below:

Let us run a clean installation of the Nvidia driver. This is different from doing DDU or updating the driver, as this will remove all entries and replace them with compatible ones. Kindly follow the steps from the link below:

Watch out for ads on the site that may advertise products frequently classified as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Products). Thoroughly research any product advertised on the site before you decide to download and install it.

If none will work from the above solutions work, I suggest doing an in-place upgrade, wherein it will update the device to the latest version and repair all issues without deleting any files.

Kindly follow the steps from this link:

Additional note: If the issue persists, I suggest contacting a local technician to physically check the device for any hardware-related issues, particularly with your graphics card.

    Hi Everyone,

I also faced the same issue as Eduardo when playing Sniper Elite 4 as follows:

Faulting application name: SniperElite4_DX11.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x598add31
Faulting module name: nvgpucomp64.dll, version: 32.0.15.8157, time stamp: 0x66af1624
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x0000000000e10ef4
    Faulting process id: 0x25F0
    Faulting application start time: 0x1DC456842C6039F
Faulting application path: E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Sniper Elite 4\bin\SniperElite4_DX11.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nvacegpu.inf_amd64_54d1e465703522d9\nvgpucomp64.dll
    Report Id: 47253683-f43f-40a2-8d35-d55a7f021102
    Faulting package full name:
    Faulting package-relative application ID:

I own an Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 (PHN16-72) with the same specs:

    1. CPU: Intel Core i9 14900HX
    2. GPU: Nvidia RTX4070 (Latest Driver version 581.17)
    3. RAM: 32GB DDR5 5600Mhz
    4. Storage: 2TB NVME
    5. OS: Windows 11 24H2 (October 2025 LCU)
    6. BIOS: 1.17 (pre-existing with 0x129 microcode since BIOS version 1.14)

The exception code 0xc0000005 termed as "Access_Violation", which can range to many root causes.

    Steps performed:

    1. Clear DirectX and Shader cache, use DDU to clean install Acer OEM Nvidia driver (Rollback) - Outcome: Game crashes still occur.
    2. Clean install windows 24H2 with July 2025 LCU (Downgrade LCU) - Outcome: Game still crashes
    3. Downgrade Steam Client to July 2025 - Outcome: Game still crashes
    4. Reset BIOS (via BIOS environment and re-seat CMOS Battery - Outcome: Game still crashes
    5. Run Intel processor diagnostic tool, memtest86, HDTune, and FurMark - Outcome: Test passes
    6. Cinebench R15 (CPU Stress) - Outcome: Passes multicore test, crashes with single core test with exception "Access_Violation"
    7. Perform HWMonitor real time logging to monitor CPU temperature and voltage while gaming (Especially core 1 and 2 which has turbo boost) - Outcome: The log shows CPU core 1 and 2 spiked 1.548v right before the program crashes.
    8. Use "ProcessLasso" to set affinity on game executable to void utilizing CPU core 1 and 2 (CPU 0, 1, 2, 3, 16, 17, 18, 19) - Outcome: Game no longer crashes.

Verdict: Unfortunately for mine, such crashes were related to CPU issue. It is known there is Instability issue affecting 13th and 14th gen high end CPU. But however, Intel claims such issue only affect Desktop processor and not mobile ones.

I have escalated to Acer team, and they will proceed to replace the motherboard (with CPU + GPU), as first measure as my device still cover under warranty.

@Eduardo Durand Seminario You may consider try steps 4, 7, and 8 if you have not recover after rolling back Nvidia driver, in order to further justify the exact root cause to the problem.

    Thanks.
