Will OpenAI gpt-5 series models become available for West Europe region? and when?

GPT‑5 models (gpt‑5, gpt‑5‑mini, gpt‑5‑nano, gpt‑5‑chat) are generally available in Azure AI Foundry and Azure OpenAI Service since August 7, 2025, but region support is limited.

West Europe Region

• Documentation now lists West Europe as supported for GPT‑5 family under Azure AI Foundry Agent Service (Standard deployment). This means GPT‑5, GPT‑5‑mini, and GPT‑5‑nano can be deployed there, but GPT‑5‑chat is still marked as preview and may not be available for Data Zone in West Europe.

You Can Do Now

• If data residency in West Europe is critical, you can:
  • Use Global Standard deployments (data at rest stays in your Azure geography, but inference may route globally).
  • Or deploy in Sweden Central (EU Data Zone) until West Europe Data Zone support is confirmed.
• For priority access or quota in West Europe, file a quota increase request via Azure portal and mention GPT‑5 model type and intended workload.
