Offline printers with pending updates in Windows 11

For quite some time now, when there are pending Windows 11 updates, network printers go offline and it is impossible to print or bring them back online.

The problem is resolved immediately after performing the updates and restarting the desktops.

Is it possible to understand what the problem is?

Thanks, Marco.

    Hello Marco,

This behavior may be related to how Windows manages background services and network connections during update staging. Pending updates can temporarily suspend or delay certain services—including print spooler and network discovery—which may cause printers to appear offline.

To help mitigate this, we recommend:

Ensuring that the Print Spooler service is set to start automatically and remains running during update checks.

Verifying that network discovery and file/printer sharing are enabled in your network settings.

Reviewing any Group Policy or update deferral settings that may affect device readiness.

Installing updates during scheduled maintenance windows to avoid disruption.

If my answer is useful for you, please vote for it.

    Best regards,

    Domic Vo.
