The Free Windows 11 Update not working

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone else has come across this problem. When I try to upgrade my Surface Pro from Windows 10 to Windows 11 using Windows Update, the update downloads just fine. After I restart, though, the device hasn’t been upgraded — and when I check Windows Update again, it just tells me to download Windows 11 all over again.

I’ve tried this several times, and the same thing keeps happening.

I’ve already run the Windows Health Check (it says my device is compatible) and used DISM and SFC /scannow — both ran without any issues.

Is there anything else I can try?

    Hi Nick Anderson,

Which version of Windows Surface Pro are you using?

If I remember right Surface Pro 7 and up can get Windows 11 which is supported.

When its not updating are there any error codes in Windows Update or event viewer?

Have you tried deleting the contents of the download folder in the Software Distribution folder under Windows, this will force WU to download a new copy of the update.

Are you using 3rd party anti-virus app?
