Can't create Azure Synapse link to Dataverse in Power Platform despite having correct apache spark version

I have a dynamics environment in Canada region

I have an Azure Synapse Workspace containing a Spark Pool in the Canada East region (there was no 'Canada' option)

In Powerapps, I try to create a link to the Dataverse, and after choosing the Azure Synapse Workspace, I'm told there is 'no spark pool version 3.4 or higher available', but there is.

Here's the sparkpool attached to the workspace,User's image

And here's what happens when I try to create the link

    Hi Rick Fleischmann

Thanks for sharing the details and screenshots.

Currently, Microsoft Power Apps requires Apache Spark 3.4 or higher (GA) for Synapse Link to Dataverse. However, in some regions, the Power Platform backend may not yet recognize newer Spark runtimes (like 3.5) due to staged rollout and regional backend alignment. As a result, even though your Spark pool is version 3.5, the portal might still display the message:

“No Spark pool version 3.4 or higher available.”

    1. Spark 3.4 is fully supported for Synapse Link, but Spark 3.5 is still being rolled out regionally and might not yet be recognized in some geographies such as Canada.
    2. The issue occurs when Power Apps backend hasn’t updated to include Spark 3.5 runtime metadata for your region.
    3. Ensure that your Dataverse environment and Synapse workspace are in the exact same region - for example, both in Canada Central. Cross-region configurations aren’t supported.

    Recommended actions:

    • If possible, create a Spark 3.4 pool (if it’s available in your region) and test if it appears in the Synapse Link setup wizard.
    • If only Spark 3.5 is available, you’ll need to wait for backend support rollout for your region.
    • Keep an eye on updates in the Synapse Link for Dataverse documentation and the Power Apps release notes.

Hope this helps. Do let us know if you any further queries.

Discovered that although I could not add a spark pool v 3.4 from within the azure portal (only 3.5 was available), I was able to add v 3.4 using Azure Synapse Analytics platform. After that, I could continue creating the Azure Synapse Link and select dataverse tables.

Turns out that my new config, with Spark v 3.4, was good enough to create the Link, but when I tried to sync a table, I get stuck on 'Initial sync in progress' (see image - 24 hrs so far trying to sync a 200 row table)

If I create a link without the spark pool, I can sync tables - except Audit, which I'm told needs the

Spark pool. And Audit is what I'm trying to sync.

So, is there some kind of permission or something for the Spark pool I could be missing?
