Hi, I can't register for Azure for Students, its locking me on Azure for Student Starter. I can't create a virtual machine nor get a VPS with Azure for Student Starter. Please help on how I can upgrade, because it tells me I'm not elligible though I'm using my school email.

    Hi Dexter,

That's a common point of confusion. The Azure for Student Starter offer is a limited, free tier with restricted services, which is why you can't create virtual machines. The standard Azure for Students offer requires a separate verification process and provides a different set of benefits, including a $100 credit.

Here is the direct way to get the correct offer:

Use a New Browser Session: First, completely sign out of the current Azure portal. Then, open a new "InPrivate" or "Incognito" browser window.

Go to the Correct Page: Navigate directly to the Azure for Students page. Do not go through the general free account page.

Verify with Your Credentials: Click "Activate now" and sign in using your verified school email address. You will likely need to go through a verification process with SheerID.

The system is telling you that you're "not eligible" for the standard offer likely for one of two reasons:

Your academic institution or your specific student status isn't verified by the third-party service (SheerID).

You have already used, or attempted to use, an Azure for Students offer in the past.

If you follow the steps above and are still deemed ineligible, you will need to contact SheerID Support directly for a review of your student status, as Microsoft relies on them for eligibility checks.

Please click Accept Answer and upvote if this guidance helps you resolve the issue. Let me know if you hit a specific error message during the process.

    Thanks.

    Alex
