Windows 11 Windows Update is freezing at 10% of an Office 2003 update (KB907417). The Download & Install box is greyed-out and has been hanging at 10% and I cannot stop and/or delete that download, and cannot, trherefore, run a normal W.Update.

Can you suggest how to resolve this please.

FYI I have two accounts and am confused abiuytr the second (1) ******@outlook.com & (2) ******@xxxonmicrosoft.com

BTW I have no idea what "Select a child tag" means so just picks one of the four options at random.

You'll gather I am not a techy.

    Hi Derrick Ings,

First, since the Office 2003 update (KB907417) is quite old and no longer supported, it’s possible that Windows Update is having trouble downloading or verifying it. You can safely skip or remove this specific update.

    Try these steps:

    1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
    2. Find Windows Update, right-click it, and select Stop.
    3. Then open File Explorer and go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.
    4. Delete everything inside this folder (this just clears temporary update files).
    5. Go back to services.msc, right-click Windows Update, and select Start again.
    6. After that, open Settings → Windows Update and click Check for updates.

This will force Windows to refresh its update cache and should remove the stuck update.

If you have two accounts. It’s common to have both a personal Outlook.com account and a work/school account ending with onmicrosoft.com. Just make sure you’re signed into Windows with the account that’s linked to your device license (usually the personal one).

I hope these steps help you get Windows Update running smoothly again! If you find this solution helpful, please click “Accept Answer” so others can easily find it too 😊

    Best regards,
