Since the last update excel is a disaster on iOS. Sheets don’t open, if they do they freeze, if they don’t freeze then the screen is completely unresponsive. Please please help fix this!

Exactly the same issue, have deleted Excel app and reinstalled, likewise Onedrive and rebooted iPhone and iPad multiple times too.

excel , word … all froze since four days now on my iphone and now on my iPad to. Cant do my facture for customer …. Begin to think finding another way to make my invoice and cancel this subscription …. Cant do invoice since 4 days in rows now ….

I am a private user now but given that Excel and Word are used by many businesses daily, many on iPads, surely an urgent fix for this is required. This is NOT a free app so we deserve to have fixes applied as a matter of priority.

There are a number of posts regarding this issue. Is MS aware of this issue and begin to address it?

Since the new version of excel was launched , excel opens the spreadsheet then freezes immediately you scroll and lines disappear. Reinstalling makes no difference at all. This needs to be fixed. I now cannot do any of my home finances.
Same problem. Worked fine until the recent upgrade. Now a disaster- can’t access any of my spreadsheets. Reinstalling has made no difference at all.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling. No luck. Also, no luck from signing out and clearing data on my phone.

Try this temporary solution:
Disable wifi (or toggle on airplane mode) when it freezes and then enable it again.
After doing this the app works fine until I restart it (Excel application?) again.

There have been multiple reports of Excel becoming unstable after the latest iOS update. Try force closing the app and reopening it. If that doesn't help, check for any new Excel app updates in the App Store, or use Excel Online as a workaround for now. Microsoft is likely aware and may release a fix soon.
Please advise how is Excel Online (web version) a workaround when it does not allow to edit the workbook.
Excel Online on mobile browsers often shows a prompt to open files in the app and may not allow editing directly in the browser. There is no workaround to enable editing in Excel Online on iPad or iPhone when this restriction appears. Editing is only available in the app or on a desktop browser.
So Excel web app is not a real workaround at this moment if I interpret this correctly.
While your active responses and enthusiasm are admirable, workable/feasible workaround would be appreciated to make actual contribution to the community.
At present, there is no practical workaround to enable Excel editing on iOS devices if both the app and the web version are not working. It will be necessary to wait for Microsoft to release an update that addresses these issues.

Microsoft is aware of the issue (especially on iOS 18.x) and is rolling out hotfixes. You can also report directly through the app: Excel → Settings (gear icon) → Help & Feedback → Send Feedback.

Great suggestion - but the freeze problem means I can’t even get the Help & Feedback link to work!
No update work , Cant do my invoice… nothing work and even with safari they send me to application for modifie and this froze …. Do you have alternative?? My buisness need to do invoice … Im about to cancel my microsoft subscrition …

I have the same issue but if you switch on and off aeroplane mode once in the frozen excel application it will temporarily work. Hopefully Microsoft will fix this soon!
I have switch to google calcul sheet. Free of charge and no bug. Stopped my money to Microsoft for Excel
