Is there an option to make the expanded compose box the default when composing messages in Teams? Barring that, is there a way to make cmd-enter the default for sending messages?

    Hi @Jim Mccarty,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Thank you for reaching out with your inquiries about the message composition defaults in Microsoft Teams. I appreciate you bringing these points forward, as they are crucial for maximizing workflow efficiency.

Here is a summary of the current functionality regarding the expanded compose box and the "Send Message" shortcut behavior.

Currently, Microsoft Teams does not include a built-in configuration to permanently set the expanded (formatted) compose box as the default view for all new messages.

However, you can quickly switch to the expanded view for any message using a simple, repeatable keyboard shortcut:

    • Windows: Ctrl + Shift + X
    • Mac: Cmd + Shift + X

Enabling Cmd+Enter as the Send Action

There is no global setting to specifically remap the Enter key. However, the exact behavior you desire is automatically enabled once you switch to the expanded compose box.

    The key distinction is:

    • In the default (single-line) state, pressing Enter sends the message, and Shift + Enter creates a new line.
    • In the expanded (formatted) state, the behavior reverses: Enter creates a new line, and Ctrl+Enter (or Cmd+Enter on Mac**)** sends the message.

Therefore, to utilize Cmd + Enter as the send action, you simply need to activate the expanded compose box first. While this approach requires an initial step, we anticipate that leveraging both the expanded box shortcut and the Cmd + Enter send shortcut will soon be seamless, ensuring an undisrupted workflow.
