Microsoft teams displayed TE when on meetings from a display device

Hi, at my company we have TV devices that we can directly join/dial into Microsoft Teams meetings from. When we are on the meetings, every few minutes the letters TE appear on the screen and we cannot hear any audio or see anything else on the screen. After about 10 seconds, everything comes back to normal. We think this is definitely a teams issue and not a hardware issue because we have switched the TV we are using multiple times. This error does not happen when we are on our Teams calls from our laptops. How do we solve this issue?

    Hi @Hannah Braswell (US),

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on your description of the TE overlay and temporary loss of audio/video, this issue has been reported by other users with Microsoft Teams Rooms systems connected to TV displays. The “TE” letters likely indicate a Teams environment or Teams endpoint error.

Possible reasons include HDMI signal loss, Teams Rooms app rendering or repositioning issues, firmware/software known issue, a known Room Controls issue in version 5.0.111.0 causing black screens, or improper rendering after updates or recovery actions.

Below are the steps you can try to approach it:

1/ A few checks and information needed:

    • Confirm Teams Rooms version and check if it’s affected by known issues.
    • Verify TV firmware, HDMI connections, and display settings.
    • Check network stability (prefer wired over Wi-Fi).
    • Gather device logs and note when “TE” appears.
    • Does this happen on all TVs or specific models?

    2/ Workarounds you can try:

    • Update to the latest Teams Rooms app version and TV firmware.
    • Disable power-saving features on the TV.
    • Use a Teams-certified device or join via browser as a temporary workaround.
    • Clear cache or reinstall Teams Rooms app if applicable, you can see how to clear Teams cache here: Clear the Teams client cache.

    3/ Contact Microsoft Support:

If the issue still persists, please collect:

    • Device model, firmware version.
    • Teams Rooms version.
    • Network details.
    • Logs and timestamps Then open a Microsoft support ticket and reference the known rendering/Room Controls issues.
    • You can do that here: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn

Please understand that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

I'm looking forward to your reply.
