Some of our Windows Server 2019 and 2022 machines were upgraded to Server 2025 without approval. We suspect third-party update tools triggered this. We need help preventing further upgrades and guidance on rollback

    Hi,

If third-party update tools are in use, they may have inadvertently triggered the upgrade by applying available feature updates without administrative review.

To prevent further upgrades, we recommend configuring Group Policy or registry settings to block feature updates, and reviewing update tool configurations to ensure they align with your change management policies. You can also use Windows Update for Business settings to defer or pause upgrades across your environment.

For rollback, if a system image or backup was created prior to the upgrade, restoring from that point is the safest option. Unfortunately, in-place downgrades are not supported, so a clean install of the previous version may be required.

If my answer is useful for you, please vote for it.

    Best regards,

    Quinnie Quoc.
