Is it possible to programmatically create an application deployment in Configuration Manager?

Hello, the documentation only shows how to create a deployment for SMS_Package and SMS_Program but the deployment of application is not mentioned. When I try to create a SMS_ApplicationAssignment object and put it, it fails with System.Management.ManagementException: Invalid operation.

I'm using .NET 4.8.1 and MCM version 2503.
