Why would you make it so hard to delete an account on MS ads?

I need to delete two Microsoft Ads accounts! But it seems impossible ...

First this "Deactivate" option is really hidden. What a pain ...

Now, I have multiple accounts deactivated - some since years. But they still are appearing in my overview and bloating my menu. I don't want to be connected to those accounts anymore but can't get rid of them ... very annoying ...

Please show me a step by step solution how to permanently delete an account on Microsoft Ads. No deactivation - no pseudo solution please.

Yeah, I totally get your frustration — I ran into the same issue when trying to delete my Microsoft Ads account. It’s surprisingly complicated for something that should be straightforward. From what I found, Microsoft doesn’t actually let you “delete” the account completely on your own. You usually have to pause all campaigns, remove payment methods, and then contact support to close it out manually.

I think the main reason they make it this way is to prevent accidental deletions and handle billing or compliance stuff before closing accounts. Still, it feels unnecessarily drawn out, especially compared to how easily you can set one up in the first place.

If you haven’t already, try reaching out through their chat or support request form — that’s the only way I managed to get mine closed properly. It took a couple of days, but they did eventually process it.

    Hi Adrian

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Advertising Learn Q&A Platform!

I understand that you would like to delete two Microsoft Advertising accounts. Please note that permanent deletion of accounts cannot be performed directly through the Microsoft Advertising dashboard. This is so you can access historical account information if needed in the future.

The recommended approach is to deactivate the accounts instead. In the user interface, you can choose to show or hide inactive accounts by ticking or unticking the box labeled "Show inactive accounts." If you untick this box, the deactivated accounts will no longer be visible. To deactivate an account, please use the "Deactivate" option available in the UI.

For your convenience, please follow this link to proceed with deactivating your accounts. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.**
