Hi Chris Drye, Thanks for posting your question in Microsoft Q&A forum
When a tenant is deleted in Microsoft Entra ID, all resources within the tenant are also deleted. You can’t delete a tenant until it passes several checks. These checks are to reduce accidental deletion, which negatively affects user access in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center and the Azure portal.
To delete a tenant, see Delete a Microsoft Entra tenant. Only a Global Administrator can delete a Microsoft Entra organization from the Microsoft Entra admin center.
Cancel and Delete Subscriptions: Ensure that all seat-based subscriptions linked to your tenant are canceled first. This includes any active Azure, Microsoft 365 (Office 365), or Microsoft Entra subscriptions.
- If you also activated license-based subscriptions for your organization, like Microsoft Entra ID P2, Microsoft 365 Business Standard, or Enterprise Mobility + Security E5 you can't delete an organization until the subscriptions are fully deleted. The subscriptions must be in a Deprovisioned state to allow organization deletion. An Expired or Canceled subscription moves to the Disabled state, and the final stage is the Deprovisioned state.
Deprovision Subscriptions: After canceling a subscription, it typically enters a 'Deprovisioned' state after 72 hours. Ensure that you're following this process:
- Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center and sign in as a Global Administrator.
- Navigate to Billing > Your products.
- Cancel the subscription you wish to remove, then select Delete for that subscription after a wait of appropriate time (3 days for trial or pay-as-you-go subscriptions).
Self-Service Sign-Up Products: If the tenant includes any self-service sign-up products such as Microsoft Power BI or Dynamics 365, these must also be removed, as only an Entra admin can initiate their deletion.
Verifying Deletion:
- After you’ve deleted all subscriptions, wait for any necessary periods to ensure that they enter a deprovisioned state.
- Confirm that there are no remaining active applications or users in the directory that could still be blocking the deletion.
Final Deletion: Once all of the above steps are completed successfully, you should be able to delete the tenant through the Microsoft Entra admin center.

If you're still having difficulties after trying the above steps, could you answer a few questions to help us pinpoint the issue further?
- Are there any specific subscriptions you’ve identified that are still connected to your tenant?
- Have you already canceled and waited for the deprovisioned state for those subscriptions?
Hope this helps and let me know how it goes!
