Hello Microsoft team,

I’ve seen discussions online where some users suggest activating Windows by running the command:

irm hXXps://get dot activated dot win | iex

Before I consider or recommend anything, I want to ensure I understand Microsoft’s official position. Is this method recognized as a legal and supported way to activate Windows, or would it be considered unauthorized use?

I’d appreciate clarification on whether only official Microsoft-provided methods (such as entering a purchased product key or using a legitimate volume licensing server) should be used for activation.

Thank you for your guidance.

Using that script method to activate Windows is an illegal method to activate Windows, that uses an illegal KMS server on that link to keep Windows activated and it is also dangerous to link your PC to a non-Microsoft server.

The only legal method to activate Windows if you do not already have a Windows licence, is to purchase a Windows licence.
