    Dear Luke Tabat,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A Forum.

The error message "Your organization's policies prevent you from changing your primary username" is the key here. Because the account was created through the Xbox Live or Microsoft Family program, it is considered a child account within a Microsoft Family Safety group.

You cannot make this change while logged into the account itself. The change must be made by the Family Organizer.

You could try some methods below to solve this issue:

    1. Contact the Family organizer:
      • Have the family organizer sign in to their Microsoft account
      • Go to account.microsoft.com/family
      • Select your account from the family members list
      • Look for "Account settings" or "Sign-in preferences"
      • They should be able to change your primary alias/username from there
    2. If you are the family organizer:
      • Sign in to account.microsoft.com/family
      • Select your own account (the organizer account)
      • Go to "Your account" > "Manage how you sign in"
      • Remove any family safety restrictions temporarily
      • Change the primary username
      • Re-enable any safety features if desired

If you are logged into the account, you can go to the Family Safety page yourself. It will show you the members of your family group, and the account listed as "Organizer" is the one who needs to make these changes.

If you are the Organizer and are still having trouble, or if you cannot access the Organizer account, you will need to contact Microsoft Support directly. This is a security and identity issue that only they can resolve.

    • Go to Microsoft's Contact Us page
    • Explain the situation: "I am the organizer of a family group and I need to change the primary alias of a child account to a working email address, but I am blocked."

Please understand that our initial reply may not always immediately resolve the issue. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution. Thank you for your cooperation.
