Dear Dave Venables,
We understand that although Windows 11 Pro is installed, the system reports a Windows 11 Home product key, and you did not receive a physical key as the device was pre‑installed.
Most new OEM devices ship with a digital license embedded in the system BIOS. If the embedded key is for Windows 11 Home, Windows will attempt to activate that edition, even if Pro is installed. To resolve this, please confirm with your retailer or HP whether the device was shipped with a Pro license. If Pro was included, HP can provide a valid Pro product key or recovery media.
If you have purchased an upgrade to Pro separately, you can enter the new key under Settings > System > Activation > Change product key. Alternatively, you can purchase a Windows 11 Pro upgrade from the Microsoft Store, which will apply the correct digital license to your device.
For further assistance, you may also refer to HP’s activation support page here or contact HP Support directly to verify the embedded license type.
Please let us know if you would like step‑by‑step guidance on checking your current digital license and edition.
If my answer is useful for you, please vote for it.
Best regards,
Quinnie Quoc.
