We've recently implemented Intune MAM in our organisation. At the end of org wide town halls, we often ask staff to complete a survey by scanning a QR code. However, we haven't found a Microsoft partner app that allows secure QR code scanning or photo capture within the MAM context. Due to privacy concerns, we prefer not to use the native camera app.

What is the recommended approach to securely support QR code scanning in a MAM-only environmen

Based on my research, I didn't find a specific app from Microsoft that allows secure QR code scanning or photo capture within the MAM context. As a recommendation, you can use an LOB application/ custom or wrapped apps for secure camera access.

No, there HAS to be an off the shelf scanning and camera app available for work related purposes that doesn't require developer tools. @Catherine Kyalo

Hi,

To add on to the previous answer, here are a few options you can explore:

Microsoft Edge has a built-in QR code scanner accessible via the camera icon in the address bar. You can scan a QR code directly, and the website or link will open securely within Edge. This helps address privacy concerns since no additional apps access the camera.

Microsoft Lens is another app for scanning QR codes. In addition to it's features, you can scan QR codes and configure it to open links in Edge.

If your environment includes BYOD devices with Android Work Profiles, you can enable deploy the native camera app within Work profile. However, different devices may require deploying different camera apps via managed Google Play.

Yes, you're right! The Microsoft Lens app is being discontinued later this year. While there isn't a dedicated standalone camera app replacement, the Microsoft 365 Copilot app includes built-in capabilities for both QR code scanning and photo capturing, and it supports App Protection policies for secure work use.

Thanks @K-Mohammed - would you recommend edge vs copilot for scanning and photos? Where are the photos stored?
Also currently I am NOT able to take photos or scan QR codes using Copilot in my Work profile - if I go into the Camera settings from Copilot, the Scan documetns and text is greyed out (not available while using the camera through another app) - what is that other app referring to? My camera app in my personal profile? How can I enable that?
