Lots of muted channels and still getting activity notifications from ALL of them!

Feels like intended (but awful) behavior. I have many muted teams channels because I'm expected to be a member if I need to go search for content but as far as active discussions are concerned in those channels - I don't need to be aware at all. I think of those channels as always-updating knowledge-bases I can refer back to but never a priority for the team I am currently on.

That said, in my activity feed and in the UI for chats/teams channels it's extremely distracting to see all of that content showing up in my feed as well as being highlighted bold white.

The question here is - is there any way around this behavior besides just straight up leaving those channels?

Could you clarify which specific activity notifications you’re still seeing and would prefer not to receive?
If possible, could you share a screenshot (feel free to blur or hide any personal information)? This will help me better understand the issue.

You could try to turn off for these setting

But I would recommend to keep the mention on so if anyone mention you could receive the notifications

@Henry-N This has been happening a lot to me too the past ~2 weeks. I believe the issue is that when someone tags a whole channel, of which I am in and have muted, Teams is now considering that the same as if someone has tagged me, specifically. This was not happening until recently and muted channels did not give me notifications as desired.

I would like to amend my previous statement: I no longer believe Teams in confusing mentioning me with mentioning the channel. I now believe its related to the new "Followed Threads" feature and that that feature involved auto-opting me into following threads I had muted. Once I turned off the auto-opt-in for those threads, I stopped receiving unwanted notifications

I found that setting as well in my global notification settings to auto-follow threads but I thought that meant individual threads that I already participated in, turning it off just to test...

Can you clarify that whether your account is a personal account or a work/school account provided by your organization/institution?

When you say there is an example could you show me that example, I can't see? Could you please attach it back?

Can you show me the screenshot of the channel notifications setting and in the setting part? And also the team setting?

Are the notifications triggered when you’re mentioned, or when the whole channel is mentioned?

Could you clarify which specific activity notifications you’re still seeing and would prefer not to receive?

Are they coming from the Activity feed

or directly from the channel chats?

Hi @Henry-N ,

I am experiencing the same issue as others have mentioned here. It seemed to start about a month ago now.

I have multiple channels that I'm a member of but have muted all notifications on the channel notification settings because I'm not an active user of that channel. See screenshot below.

This has always worked perfectly (until about a month ago) and prevents me from getting bombarded with notifications from that channel, even if the poster uses the @mention feature.

Since about a month ago, I now get a notification in my Activity section of the app for EVERY POST that uses the @mention feature for that channel. It's like my settings for the channel are COMPLETELY ignored and overridden by Teams now.

Here are my settings under the larger Teams Notifications and activity section where I still have the @mentions featured turned on (because I don't want to miss important posts in channels that I actively use and monitor).

It seems like Teams is totally ignoring my individual channel notification settings and only looking at the app level setting under the larger Teams Notifications and activity section. Ideally, the individual channel settings should override these app level settings.

Hope this helps! Please help us find a resolution to this because I'm also being bombarded with notifications on my phone from the Teams app, which means I'm more likely to miss a notification for a channel that I actively use and monitor.
