how to fix raw storage

Hello everyone.

Using computer management, I combined 4 disks as one logical one.

Then, using the hyper v control panel, I created a virtual server on this disk. Each disk is 5 TB. A total of 20.

There was a power outage / on, several times that day..

Now I can run the OS on this virtual server. But the rest of the space is now in RAW format.

Is there a way to return the disk to working condition?

    Hi,

It sounds like your issue is related to the spanned volume created in Disk Management. When you combine multiple disks into one large logical drive using Windows Dynamic Disks, the data is spread across all disks without redundancy. Unfortunately, if there are sudden power outages, it can sometimes corrupt the Logical Disk Manager (LDM) metadata or the NTFS file system, which may cause the remaining space to show as RAW.

Here are a few steps you can try:

    1. Do Not Format the RAW Space

Avoid initializing or formatting the disk, as this may overwrite important recovery data.

    1. Reactivate the Disk
    • Open Disk Management.
    • Right-click on the dynamic disk showing the issue.
    • If the option "Reactivate Disk" is available, select it. Sometimes this can restore the volume without data loss. Hope this helps! 😊

    Regards

    Dear adlan solt,

Thank you for contacting us regarding the issue with your virtual server and disk configuration. We understand that you combined four 5TB disks into a single 20TB logical volume and experienced multiple power interruptions, which have now resulted in part of the disk showing as RAW format.

We’re glad to hear that the virtual server OS is still operational. However, when a disk appears as RAW, it typically indicates file system corruption. To help restore access, we recommend running a file system check using CHKDSK or exploring recovery options via Disk Management or PowerShell. If the data is critical, we strongly advise consulting a professional data recovery service before attempting repairs.

I hope this helps. Just kindly tick Accept Answer that others in the community facing similar issues can easily find the solution. Your contribution is highly appreciated.

    Best regards,
