    Good morning,
Thank you for your help, now it works. The problem was that I uploaded my files to OneDrive. I had to download the virtual machine back to local drive and then create a new VM in HyperV. I chose: Use an existing virtual hard disk and upload the old vhdx. file.

    Sincerely
    Matúš Dzoba

    Hi Matus Dzoba,

    Thank you for reaching out!

From my research, you’re encountering an error in Hyper-V when trying to create a checkpoint for your VM 'EUOPC 800xA 6-2-0-0'. The error message indicates:

    • Checkpoint operation failed.
    • Failed to delete .avhdx file.
    • Cannot create the storage required for the checkpoint using disk: The system cannot find the path specified (0X80700003).

    This usually occurs when:

    • The .avhdx or .vhdx file paths are missing, renamed, or corrupted.
    • The VM’s storage location has changed or is inaccessible.
    • There are insufficient permissions or disk space on the host.
    • The VM has orphaned checkpoints or broken differencing disk chains.

Here are a few steps you can try out:

    Verify Storage Paths

    • In Hyper-V Manager → VM Settings → Hard Drive, confirm the Virtual Hard Disk path exists and files are present.

    Check Disk Space & Permissions

    • Ensure the drive where the VM files are stored has enough free space.
    • Confirm the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management Service account has full access to the folder.

    Remove or Merge Orphaned Checkpoints

    Recreate the Checkpoint

    • After fixing the paths and merging disks, try creating a new checkpoint.

    If the Path Is Invalid

    • Update the VM configuration to point to the correct VHDX file.
    • If the original path no longer exists, you may need to restore from backup.

    Hi @Matus Dzoba ,

I'm so glad to you managed to solve your issue.

Sorry to bother you, but I hope you do not mind that I'm summarizing this to help others who might face the same issue:

    • Problem: Hyper-V VM failed to create a checkpoint with error “The application encountered an error while attempting to change the state of Virtual Machine”.
    • Cause: The VM’s VHDX or checkpoint files were not accessible because they were moved (e.g., to OneDrive or another location).
    • Solution: Move the VM files back to a local drive, then recreate the VM in Hyper-V using Use an existing virtual hard disk and select the original .vhdx file.

If you agree with this summarization, please accept this answer so others can find help from your post.

Thank you very much for your time!
