How do I deploy an Azure SQL VM?

I am trying to start up a Windows 2022 VM with Developer's Edition SQL 2022. It's a menu option, so it seems this should be pretty straightforward.

It fails with MSSQL Service failing to start -- every time.

I am largely taking defaults -- main thing I'm changing is to make it visible from public IP, and to permit SQL Logins.

The error message is unhelpful, google and Co-Pilot direct me to do things but links take me to more pages telling me to register the IASS something-something but the links never actually take me to a page where that can be done.

Notably, it does not give me access to any long which might help a mere mortal grasp what is actually failing.

This seems like I'm likely missing something pretty basic -- but in taking mostly defaults, I should think it would only choose options that actually work. And it fails. Every time.

I just want a VM with SQL on it. I am at a loss to explain why this is failing.

Interesting. Instructions provided only after the failure indicated I should select the A2 instead of B1 VM template.

A-Series isn't available anymore, but after looking over the capabilities, I selected the B2ms template -- and it worked.

So apparently it is recommending a VM which cannot run the software selected to run upon it.

    Brilliant. Just brilliant.
