Possible staged rollout of Copilot in PowerPoint with personal accounts

I’m trying to determine if a specific Copilot feature in PowerPoint is still in a staged rollout and only available for certain Microsoft 365 Insider builds.

Based on Microsoft’s documentation, Copilot Pro users with personal Microsoft accounts should be able to create a presentation from a Word file stored in OneDrive by either:

  • Clicking the paperclip icon, or
  • Typing “/” in the prompt to select the file.

My current experience:

  • In both the desktop and web versions of PowerPoint, the paperclip icon doesn’t appear, and typing “/” doesn’t show any OneDrive files.
  • In Word for the web, I can link a document, but the option isn’t present in Word desktop.

My suspicion: This feature might still be in a gradual rollout, possibly limited to certain Insider channels, geographic regions, or specific builds.

I’d like to know if other Microsoft 365 Insider users with personal accounts and Copilot Pro have access to this option, and if so, which build and region you are in.

Any confirmation or insight from the community would be greatly appreciated.

    Dear Mr_M,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A

Thanks for contacting us regarding your situation I acknowledged that you have questions about Copilot Pro feature requirement for PowerPoint app.

I would like to share with you some details:

    • The ability to select OneDrive files using the paperclip icon or slash command (/) in PowerPoint Copilot is not yet universally available
    • This feature is being gradually deployed across:
      • Microsoft 365 Insider channels
      • Specific geographic regions
      • Build versions of Office apps

Following: Release Notes for Microsoft 365 Copilot | Microsoft Learn

Firstly, check your Office as following:

    • Open PowerPointFileAccountAbout PowerPoint
    • Insider builds should show:

Beta Channel: Version 2406 (Build 17704.xxxx) or later.

Current Channel: Version 2405 (Build 17628.xxxx) or later.

    • If you’re on the Monthly Enterprise Channel or an older build, you likely won’t have it yet.

Moreover, based on you describe, it's seemed like the feature may not be rolled out to your tenant/region yet.

In this situation, you could try these details:

    • Switch to an Insider Channel: If you're comfortable testing preview features, you can join the Microsoft 365 Insider Program and opt into the Beta or Current Channel (Preview).
    • Switch to a Supported Region (Temporarily): Try signing in with a US-based account (some features roll out earlier there) at Miftcrosoft account | Sign In or Create Your Account Today – Microso
    • Use the Web Version of Word: As you've noticed, linking files works in Word for the web—this may be a temporary workaround until full parity arrives in desktop apps.
    • Check for Conflicting Add-ins: Go to File → Options → Add-ins → Disable all → Restart PowerPoint.
    • Clear Office Cache (For Web): In PowerPoint for Web
      • Press Ctrl+F5 (hard refresh).
      • Clear browser cache or try in InPrivate/Incognito mode

If the issues still persist, kindly share your feedback to Microsoft, and wait for the general rollout. Here are the ways you could share your feedback:

    • In PowerPoint: Help → Feedback → Report the missing feature.
    • Include (screenshots/build number)
      • Your Office version (from File → Account).
      • Your region and account type (personal Copilot Pro).

Hope it will help you. Please let us know if you need further assistance in this case.

    Sincerely,
