All sticky notes are gone from OneNote. This started a few months ago.

All of the sticky notes in OneNote app on Android are gone. They also no longer show up in the OneNote app on Windows. If I install the Sticky Notes app on Windows they are still there, but not anywhere else. What changed? Sticky Notes were migrated to OneNote, which was a great idea. Now suddenly they are just gone from the app. This has been an open question for months and the answers support is giving are not straightforward or helpful.

    Hi Rocky,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Sorry for this unwanted experience regarding the disappearance of sticky notes in OneNote app. This may stem from various reasons such as account mismatch, outdated apps, sync interruption or platform limitations. Let me guide you through some troubleshooting steps that can help resolve this issue:

    Verify and Sync Accounts

    • Windows Sticky Notes App: Open it → Settings (gear icon) → Confirm account email.
    • OneNote on Android/Windows: Go to Settings → Verify the same account is signed in. If not, sign out and back in.
    • Force Sync: In Windows Sticky Notes → Settings → Sync Now. Repeat in OneNote (Settings → Sync).

    Update or Reinstall Apps

    • OneNote on Android: Update via Play Store. If already updated, uninstall → restart device → reinstall.
    • OneNote on Windows: Ensure you have Version 2405+ (check via File → Account → About OneNote).

    Access Notes via Alternative Methods

    • Web Access: Visit Outlook.com → Check the Notes folder (synced Sticky Notes appear here).
    • Dedicated Sticky Notes App (Android): Install "Microsoft Sticky Notes" from Play Store → Sign in to view notes.

    Recover "Lost" Notes

    • Outlook Recycle Bin: If notes were deleted accidentally: Open Outlook.com → Deleted Items folder → Restore notes.
    • Local Backup (Windows): Press Win + R → Paste:
        %LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState

    • Backup the plum.sqlite file (this stores notes) 1317.
    • Data Recovery Tools: Use tools like Stellar Data Recovery to restore deleted plum.sqlite files if backups exist.
