Hello,

I am just trying to start this game I mention in the title. I will provide all the contract I had with epic tech support if that may help. The support staff are all using nicknames, so there's no breach of private data. This is me talking to them, trying to solve this issue.

I inform them in the support web form about the error I get, and ask for their advice.

Hello,

This answer does not fix my issue. The dlls missing are not VCRUNTIME140.dll or VCOMP110.dll

The error I get specifies that the dll missing is called api-ms-win-core-com-l1-1-0.dll

The error reads, and I quote,

Header: WolfNewOrder_x64.exe - System Error

Main body: The program can't start because api-ms-win-core-com-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

There's an OK button to close the window.

If reinstalling the game would fix it, I'd do it, but frankly I don't think that'll do anything since the game installed just fine, and gave me no errors, or issues during installation. And frankly, I'd like to avoid it, since this is a 50GB game download, and it takes many hours to download.

I'll be happy to provide info on my system, anything you need in order to help with that specific issue.

Thank you.

Hello,

I have attached the requested documents inside a zip file named "requested files.zip".

Mista 4Life (Epic Games Player Support) Jun 15, 2022, 03:59 EDT Thank you for the tech files provided. I carefully checked them and didn't find any issues. It seems that the issue you've encountered is related to Microsoft Visual C++. Try updating your Windows components from the Microsoft store: - Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package. - Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012. - Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013-2021. You can look for those updates here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=48145 If the issue persists, I highly suggest you contacting Microsoft support here - https://support.microsoft.com/en-US Hopefully, the error won't be bothering you in the future. And feel free to contact us if you happen to have any other questions. Have a wonderful rest of your day! Kind regards, Mista 4Life

Hello,

You mentioned "store", but I don't use windows 10, I still use windows 7. There is not store in windows 7, and all the updates are automatically installed.

Also I get this error when I try to install either x86, or x64 version from the link you provided.

Microsoft Visual C++ 2015

Redistributable (x64) - 14.0.23026

Setup Failed

One or more issues caused the setup to fail, Please fix the issues and then retry setup.

For more information see the log file,

0x80070666 - Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this

version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this

product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel.

Do I have to uninstall all visual c++ versions, then try reinstalling them?

Thank you.

When I mentioned 'store' I didn't mean embedded Microsoft store. Thanks to your tech files and screenshot I could tell that you're running Windows 7.

Yes, you could try completely reinstalling MSVC++ packages from the link I've provided. If the issue persists you should contact Microsoft support for additional assistance.

Kind regards,

Mista 4Life

I proceded with uninstalling all the VC++ packages, and installed only the one they provided.
This did not solve the issue.
As they twice suggested I ask MS support, since this is a VC++ issue, I did just that.
If you need info on my system, please just ask, just can you help me solve this issue?

Thank you.

Ugh.. maybe when I am in the mood to download a 50GB game I am no longer in the mood of playing, maybe then I will check your fix. For now, if anyone else wants to confirm this works, go right ahead and reply here.
Thanks anyway, and please don't suggest people to re-download a game they just finished downloading as a fix. It just adds insult to injury. Especially when all launchers have the "verify game files" options nowadays.

As you may be aware, a "redistributable" is a collection of files used by an application that can be included with the application's installation package.

A well-designed application installer generally will include all necessary files, check to see if the system includes them, and then install any necessary files if they are not already there. That's the reason the people suggest redownloading and reinstalling the application -- i.e., they're assuming that the missing file is included in the installer. Perhaps it is and perhaps it isn't -- we can't answer that question.

If, in fact, Epic Games Player Support was correct in analyzing whatever you sent and the missing api-ms-win-core-com-l1-1-0.dll file is part of a C++ redistributable package, then installing the correct redistributable package should have fixed things.

    However ...

    • the error you received when you tried to install their suggested C++ redistributable package ("Another version of this product is already installed") is a bit odd. Normally, multiple different versions of C++ redistributable packages can coexist on the same system -- see screenshot below.
    • the link you were given is not for the most recent version of the C++ redistributable package. For the current versions, go here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170  I just looked, and both the x86 and x64 versions are 14.32.31332
    • More disturbingly, however, I looked on a Windows 7 x64bit system has that has multiple versions of the C++ redistributable package installed (see screenshot below) and api-ms-win-core-com-l1-1-0.dll is nowhere to be found on this system.

My conclusion is that even though api-ms-win-core-com-l1-1-0.dll looks like a file related to C++, it doesn't appear to be included in the redistributable packages. You can try downloading the appropriate file from the Microsoft link just above, but I suspect that it won't solve your problem.

If you uninstalled ALL versions of the C++ redistributable that had been installed on your system, installing the latest version should enable any of your other applications that depend on the 2015 or a more recent version of C++ to continue to work. However, if some of your applications depended on an older release (see screenshot), you may have to figure out which older distributables to find and install.
