We want to deploy a gRPC based webapp but can’t front it with app gateway as that can’t send http2 through to the backend
are there any plans to support this scenario so we can have a scalable https2 based gRPC solution?

@KapilAnanth Any reason why this couldn’t be answered publicly? I can see this question on multiple forums and no official answer or roadmap from Microsoft.
I don't see the private message anymore, but I think we talked about it being on the roadmap...?
I've learnt that Front Door does allow HTTP2 to origin in preview now. But still odd that gRPC isn't more widely allowed through the Azure infrastructure components?

As of now, we do not have an ETA on General Availability of HTTP/2 Support for backends in App Gateway .
You can upvote for this feature in Azure feedback forum so it gets more traction from Azure Product team:

@KapilAnanth Has there been any movement on this? I could have sworn that there was a preview feature in AFD that allowed HTTP2 to origin but can't find it now.
We are blocked from going SaaS in Azure because of a lack of HTTP2 support for a key component. So I'm keen to find a way to unblock that. We are landing in ACA for our application and trying to allow a remote agents to have a gRPC connection to the application

AFAIK - HTTP2 to backend public preview was not announced.

Currently, both Azure Front Door and Application Gateway do not support HTTP2 access to Origin/Backend.
I will check internally if HTTP2 Support is in the Pipeline and get back to you shortly.

Thank you! I did find that a self hosted gateway with API management could perhaps work but at a cost of $3 per hour. It seems odd that front end or app gateway can’t support http 2. It isn’t a particularly new standard…?
