Does Azure Maps support the use in China?

Hello, does Azure Maps support the use in China? My company uses Bing Maps for its project, and now Bing Maps needs to be integrated into Azure Maps. According to the Azure Maps document, it does not support the use in China. What should I do then?

China is not currently supported but planned. Currently the team is working on adding support for South Korea (will likely be ready soon), then will start on China. With all the regulations and approvals needed for map platforms in China, a timeline for its release can't be provided at this time.

Note that Bing Maps for Enterprise platform will be available to licensed customers till June of 2028.

Hello, I planned to resolve this map issue by June this year. Now 9 months have passed, how is Azure Maps' support plan for China progressing? If guaranteed support before 2028, I would prefer to upgrade to Bing Maps Enterprise Edition and migrate once Azure Maps supports China. Thank you.

As far as I know Azure Maps plans to add support for China. I'm not on the Azure Maps team but have a lot of experience working with maps in China. The Azure Maps team/Microsoft can't provide timelines for when this would be supported if they wanted as it's completely controlled by Chinese policies. All map platforms in China have to make a lot of customizations to align with these policies and go through a lot of reviews by officials in China where there is no timeline on when they will complete a review. It is a frustrating problem where geopolitical tensions don't help with the timelines either. Generally, it takes months for a single review and can easily take years to get a map platform live in China. Every little change to a map platform in China has to go through a review. So, even if Azure Maps uses the exact same data as Bing Maps in China, there is still a lot red tape before Azure Maps can flip the switch on in China.

We tried Azure Map API for maps of China Mainland, it can display map but unable to pick up addresses.

Will there be a timeline?

If you are connecting to Azure Maps from outside of China (you are physically outside of China or using a VPN), you should be able to geocode addresses in China using the latest geocoding service in Azure Maps: https://free.blessedness.top/en-us/rest/api/maps/search/get-geocoding?view=rest-maps-2025-01-01&tabs=HTTP
